The kings of Prussia could trace their origns back to Count Thassilo of Zollern, one of the generals of Charlmagne. The size of the country changed dramaticially over the years and in 1866 was some 137,066 square miles with a population of 22,769,436.
William's income amounted to some 2,573,000 thalers per annum.
At the time of this meeting the King wanted to attend but was persuaded by Bismark not too - despite numerous pressures, including a personal entreaty by the King of Saxony.
